ROSA MARIE BONHEUR (French, 1822-1899) “BUFFALO HUNTERS”. Pencil, watercolor and gouache on paper shows three scenes on one piece of paper. Top scene shows two Native Americans in the process of killing a buffalo. The buffalo is seen amongst a small herd in a snow covered ground with trees and mountain. Middle scene shows five buffalo in deep snow. Bottom scene shows two Native Americans being disguised in animal skins crawling up to a herd of buffalo. Housed in a fine gilt wood modern frame with linen matte and inner gilt liner behind glass. Unsigned and has some watercolor work as well as china white. SIZE: Sight: 9″ x 5-3/4″. PROVENANCE: Attached to reverse is a Gerald P. Peters label, also a label from the Collection of Robert L. B. Tobin (Involved in the starting of the Metropolitan Opera’s Art Collection).
