ENGRAVED SHARPS MODEL 1853 SPORTING RIFLE. SN 8319. Cal. 40. 25-1/2” oct bbl. This is an “extra engraved” rifle of which only a handful were made. It features full coverage engraving on the frame, lockplate and patchbox, with vignettes of a running deer on the patchbox and feeding doe on the left side of the frame. Bbl has partial engraving for about 4” at the rear and 1-1/2” at the front. Lever is engraved only on the bottom and the buttplate on the tang, and around the lower screw. Standard markings on the bbl, lockplate and receiver. Rear sight staff is broken. Dbl set triggers. CONDITION: Smooth gray patina overall, with light pitting on the tangs, lever and buttplate. Wood has normal dents and scratches. Mechanically fine. 4-56341 (15,000-25,000)
