NEW ENGLAND BANNISTER BACK ARMCHAIR. Last quarter 18th century. Probably New Hampshire, this example with sausage turned styles and knopped ball finials, centering a double-stepped crest rail above 4 split-banister turned spindles, joined to the trapezoidal rush seat. The shaped arms with smooth down-turned grips above the sausage-turned frontal cylindrical legs, joined with box stretchers. SIZE: Height of back 45-1/2″, height of seat 17″. PROVENANCE: Found in an Exeter, NH home. CONDITION: Very good overall with scrubbed surfaces. Retains light honey color. No breaks or restoration noted. 9-95944 (500-1,000)
