TWO BALTIMORE & OHIO RAILROAD STAFFORDSHIRE PLATES. Both in deep blue color by Enoch Wood & Sons. 1) Shell border with the interior scene showing an early engine with four cars in a landscape setting. The back impress marked (#183, page 77 Arman’s Checklist). 2) Shell border with interior scene showing a building atop a steep slope with cable run coal cars and train in background (#182, page 76, Arman’s Checklist). NOTE: An interesting note on the back of one plate indicates that the view is actually of the English Hetton Railway which was taken from a Boston engraving of 1826 which was before the B&O was built. SIZE: 1) 10-1/4″ dia. 2) 9-1/4″ dia. PROVENANCE: From a Maine collector. CONDITION: 1) Old chip on rim, otherwise very good. 2) Old repaired chip on rim, otherwise very good. 9-96642 (400-800)
