MODEL 1865 SPENCER CONTRACT MODEL CARBINE. Cal. 50. SN 22306. One of approximately 30,502 made for government contract, of which about half were fitted with Stabler cut off, which this one has. It is a standard carbine with 20″ rnd bbl, square base front sight and 900-yard ladder rear sight. It has the Burnside markings on top of the receiver with “J.L.C.” inspector initials on the left flat and an oval “ESA” cartouche on the left wrist. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Metal being a smooth silver/gray patina, the receiver & lockplate having traces of silver casehardening. Wood is sound with light handling & use nicks & scratches on the stock with nicks, dings & bruises on the forearm.
