LACQUERED TEA CADDY. Late 19th century, China. The rectangular caddy with gilt design of garden landscape within scrolling vines, the hinged lid opening to an interior pitted with a pair of pewter containers decorated with engraved flowers and vines. Box raised on claw feet. SIZE: 4-3/4″ h x 7-1/4″ l x 5″ w. PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: Caddy with dried surfaces and demonstrating slight wear to gilded surfaces. Containers with multiple dents, but retaining original lids. Otherwise good. 9-29245 (300-500)
