DEAN CORNWELL (American, 1892-1960) ARRIVAL AT THE INN. Outstanding oil on canvas illustration depicting a gentleman helping a young woman out of a blue 1920’s Roadster. The car sits in front of a Colonial Inn with the Innkeepers standing on the steps. Another man and woman look on. Signed lower left “Dean Cornwell, 21”. Housed in what may be its original gesso decorated frame with liner. Dean Cornwell was an important American illustrator and his work appeared regularly in Redbook, The Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar amongst others. His illustrations were used in many stories by some of America’s outstanding artist’s of the day. Accompanying lot is a book on Dean Cornwell “Dean of Illustrators” by Broder. SIZE: 36” x 34”.
