GROUP OF NINE STENCILED URN-BACK CHAIRS. First half 19th century. Includes a set of six matching cane seat chairs in black paint, stencil-decorated with elaborate scrolling vinery centering an oval panel of stenciled fruit. Together with three similar chairs, stencil-decorated with scrolling flowerheads and vinery, each urn splat stencil-decorated with a floral bouquet. SIZE: SET OF 6: each 33″ h. of back, 17-1/2″ h. of seat. SET OF 3: each 33-1/2″ h. of back, 17-1/2″h. of seat. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection. Acquired in Richmond, Maine in the 1970’s. CONDITION: Overall very good, showing normal and expected wear to painted surfaces. All seats intact. 9-94930 (800-1,200)
