UNSIGNED (American, Mid 19th Century) PORTRAIT OF THE REVEREND PROFESSOR SAMUEL SEABURY. Pastel mounted on canvas oval half portrait of a man wearing a black coat, white shirt, having blue eyes and brown hair. Housed in a period gold molded wood oval frame with glass. A modern tag indicates the sitter as the Reverend Profession Samuel Seabury, grandson of Bishop Samuel Seabury, First Bishop of Connecticut. SIZE: 24″ x 20″. PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
