RARE REMINGTON NO. 5 SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 30 US (30-40 Krag). SN 5-7. Very rare rifle, fewer than 100 made at turn of 20th century. It has 28” tapered rnd bbl, with German silver blade Rocky Mountain front sight & semi-buckhorn rear sight. Top of bbl, in front of sight, is marked “.30 U.S.” and has the company name & address. Top tang has the 3-line company & patent information and bottom tang has the serial number. Mounted with uncheckered, straight grain, American walnut with black insert, schnable tip forearm & straight stock with semi-crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains 98-99% glossy, orig, factory blue & receiver about all of its orig case colors, moderately faded, strong & bright in sheltered areas. Tangs are a mottled case color. Wood is sound & retains most of its orig factory varnish with light handling & use marks and a couple of scratches on buttstock. Mechanics are crisp; strong bore, somewhat worn in front of chamber with fine pitting in grooves. 4-60186 JR349 (6,000-10,000)
