CARL HIRSCHBERG (American, 1854-1923) “SHARPENING THE SCYTHE”. Oil on canvas landscape scene shows a man holding scythe blade to a foot operated round sharpening stone. A sunlit scene with haystack, trees and field. The man is dressed in a blue shirt, brown pants and his straw hat is set on the ground. A very pleasing subject matter. Signed lower left and dated “1903”. Housed in a fine gesso decorated period frame. The back stretcher having an original label. SIZE: 19-1/2″ x 26″. CONDITION: Very good. 9-94028 (3,500-4,500)
