STEAMSHIP “RMS LUSITANIA” SELF-FRAMED TIN SIGN. The Lusitania was the sister ship to the Mauretania, built for the British Cunard Line in 1907. Both ships had the most luxurious interiors afloat and were the fastest passenger ships at the time. The Lusitania was built for transatlantic passenger service between New York and Liverpool. On May 7, 1915 she was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland with the loss of 1,195 passengers. This sign is virtually a mirror reverse image of the Mauretania. The lithographer, the H. D. Beach Co. of Coshocton, Ohio used the same image but reversed the viewer’s perspective and changed the name on the bow. SIZE: 39” w. x 28” h. CONDITION: This sign has had some areas of professional paint restoration with a clear coat added, and displays in very good condition. Only two small dents to the bow remain visible. 1-10474 (1,000-1,500)
