INDONESIAN PAINT AND GILT DECORATED PAPIER MACHE BOX. Third quarter 19th century. The circular black lacquered box with domed conforming lid painted overall with fanciful and mythical figures, dogs and other animals within a gilt highlighted and polychrome decorated floral background. SIZE: Ht 7″ Diameter 9 1/2″ CONDITION: Structurally with some losses and cracks around lid rim. Some wear to lacquered and decorated surfaces overall. Exterior condition is generally good with no restorations noted but with general roughness. 9-97633 (400-600)
