JOSEPH HEARD (American, 1799-1859) “WHITE HEADLIGHT”. Fine oil on canvas nautical scene shows several two-mast schooners, one named the “Idlewild” passing a point of land with tall white lighthouse having connected buildings and other buildings. Several other sails are seen on horizon. All under a blue and lifting fog sky. We believe this is a scene of Whitehead Light lighthouse near Spruce Head, Maine. Signed “Heard” and titled lower left. Housed in what probably is its original gilt molded wood frame. A Boston framer label is attached to stretcher. SIZE: 10″ x 18″. CONDITION: Relined with inpainting. Very good. 9-93944 (2,000-4,000)
