JOHN O’HARA COSGRAVE II (American, 1908-1968) VICTORY AND DEFEAT. Watercolor nautical battle scene shows a British gunship battling an American ship. Both ships fly respective colors and there are many sailors shown. Another U.S. ship is seen off left side and the American ship has lost one mast. Signed lower right “J. O’H. Cosgrave II”. Housed in a fine modern gilt frame with watercolored matte. Cosgrave illustrated many books and worked for “Life”, “Fortune” and “Yachting” magazines. SIZE: Sight: 9-3/4″ x 14-3/4″.
