HOYT’S ANIMATED BLACK CLOCKWORK PICTURE. Of English manufacture during the early 20th century, this is a most deceptive picture when hanging on one’s wall. Slowly the facial expression changes from being simple and humble to a grinning gentleman showing huge lips and an abundance of teeth. To the unsuspecting, they step back and gasp as the series of cams and the clockwork mechanism changes the facial expression radically. Encased behind glass, these pictures usually hung in pubs, saloons, gambling parlors, etc. This particular example has a paper label on the rear indicating the various patents in England, France, Germany, and America. Furthermore, directions are given with the proper and correct operation. When wound, the gentleman would perform for well over an hour. A most unique and different piece and must be seen in person to truly appreciate the ingenuity involved in creating this picture. SIZE: 16″ w x 21″ h. CONDITION: Overall very fine original condition and in good working order. 1-9851 (4,000-6,000)
