SET OF FIVE SHERATON FANCY CHAIRS TOGETHER WITH A PAIR OF ARM CHAIRS. Circa 1840, American. The turned crest rail with pillow back joined to backswept styles centering a shaped stencil decorated splat. Each with trapezoidal woven seat on ring-turned legs joined by double box stretcher. Pair of arm chairs with similar stencil decorated crest rail. Central splat stencil decorated with fruit and floral filled urn. Scrolled down-swept arms centering a trapezoidal woven seat on cylindrical grain turned legs joined by a box stretcher. SIZE: Back on side chairs is 33-1/2″ h. Back of arm chairs is 34″ h. Seat on chairs is 19″ w. PROVENANCE: Robert Frederick Woolworth Estate, Monmouth, Maine. (F.W. Woolworth Store). CONDITION: One side chair with poorly repaired slat, one woven rush seat in need of restoration. Otherwise all chairs are structurally good with original painted and stenciled surfaces. Stenciling is considerably faded in side chairs. 9-23526 (500-800)
