OUTSTANDING CARVED WALNUT/MAHOGANY FIGURE OF COLUMBIA MADE FOR THE SWEDISH PAVILION BUILDING AT THE CHICAGO WORLD’S FAIR OF 1893. This half-life size figure has outstanding carved features including large wings, ruffled dress, hand and facial features, and gilded torch. She stands atop a gilt ball and plinth. A three-legged round base is an addition for display. Outfitted for light fixture. Figure has a great patina. Descended from the original owner who bought it at the fair. SIZE: Figure height without wings 34″, with wings 45″, overall height 69-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Near excellent. 9-91807 (12,500-17,500)
