RARE NICKEL-DROP PAY-OUT GAMBLING DEVICE. Of unknown manufacture, but certainly by the style of the wooden cabinet and overall appearance, this machine is definitely from the first quarter of the 20th century, a somewhat complicated mechanism yet simple in concept. Similar to a Clawson “CRACKERJACKS” in which the coin would travel downwards through a series of pins and trip a lever releasing the coins in the visible pocket, this particular machine also has the nickel traveling down a series of pins and activating one of five levers. When said lever is activated there is an internal gear that advances, and every so often (approx. 12th advancement) a token is dispensed and retrieved by player on left side of machine. To the best of our knowledge, this is a unique machine and the only known example surviving today! Internal plate holding the visible tokens in place has been replaced with a piece of sheet aluminum. More than likely, some sort of paper with directions and maker’s name was originally behind the front glass panel. A most unique opportunity to buy a rare and one-of-a-kind gambling machine. One must his artistic license to create an appropriate award card for the front window and a piece of old sheet tin to replace aluminum panel that was put in by an amateur some time ago. SIZE: Approx. 17″ w. x 11″ d. x 19″ h. CONDITION: Great original wood finish to cabinet, split to domed top (easy repair), otherwise minimal nick or chip to cabinet. 1-10479 (2,500-4,500)
