SCARCE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1818 FLINTLOCK MARTIAL PISTOL. .69 Cal. 10-7/8” rnd bbl. Marked “SPRING / FIELD / 1818” in three vertical lines at the tail of the lockplate. The normal eagle over “US” appears in front of the hammer. The top of the bbl is also dated 1818 and it carries the standard proof marks. There are two cartouches on the left flat of the stock. The inside of the lockplate is marked “…DALE”; the balance of the marking is under the mainspring. There is a sgl dot assembly mark on the interior part. CONDITION: The mainspring is a replacement. The reconversion is an expert job, barely detectible on the lockplate. The ramrod is also a replacement. Gray/brown patina with light pitting overall. Crack at the upper buttcap screw.
