RARE HIGH QUALITY V. LIBEAU AMERICAN MADE FLINTLOCK DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. NSN. Beautiful flintlock dbl with 27-3/8″ Damascus bbls, smooth concave rib marked “NEW ORLEANS” and has a wide platinum band & narrow gold band at the breech end. Lockplates are narrow & slightly curved with fine foliate engraving and are marked with the maker’s name. Gooseneck hammers are engraved to match. Lockplates have roller frizzens. Top tang and long trigger guard with its pointed finial are engraved to match. Forestock is secured with two wedges through oval German silver escutcheons and it has an engraved German silver nose pipe and a German silver bird dog inlay on the bottom of the stock. Buttplate is smooth steel with a 5″ long, engraved, stepped tang and there is a rectangular shaped German silver thumb plate. Bbls have two iron guides that contain a brass tipped ebony ramrod that is a replacement as it is about 1-1/2″ short. It is mounted in a highly figured 1-pc, walnut stock with checkered straight grip and thin cheekpiece and is 14″ over a steel buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain dark brown patina overall with some light wear about mid-point. Lockplates, hammers, trigger guard & tangs are a medium blue/brown patina. Wood is sound with a few scattered light dings & handling marks & retains generous amounts of its orig finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bores with light pitting.
