PATENT MODEL ARTIFICIAL LEG. Patented August 7, 1866 by R.H. Nicholas, #56,983. Wooden lower leg with leather covering. Realistically carved with toes and ankle, etched in calf with inventor’s name. Accompanied by original patent tag (good with light staining). SIZE: 8″ h. PROVENANCE: The late Terry Wesner collection, Chelsea, Michigan. CONDITION: Generally good with some splits with missing and/or replaced bolt. Wear, darkening and loss to leather. 1-12706 (200-400)
