FRAMED AUTOGRAPH: HENRY DEARBORN, SECRETARY OF WAR (American, 1751-1829). Collage including an early envelope addressed to John Page from the War Department signed “H. Dearborn”. Dated October 1, 1806. Also having a red seal and postmarked “Washington City Oct 1”. Included in the collage is an engraving by CW Peale of Dearborn, an obituary clipping, a postal cover of Fort Dearborn dated “1933” and a Century of Progress cover illustrating Fort Dearborn and signed by Victor S. McCloskey, Jr. (designer) and William B. Wells (letter engraver). Victor McCloskey designed the Fort Dearborn stamp and William B. Wells was responsible for the frame and lettering of the stamp. Dearborn was Secretary of War under Thomas Jefferson from 1801-1809. Housed in an antique style gilt frame with white matte having six cutouts. SIZE: Total: 19″ x 14-1/2″.
