EARLY COUNTER TOP MILLS 5¢ BROWNIE SLOT MACHINE. At the turn of the century the Palmer Cox Brownies were quite the rage, often used on a multitude of various items ranging from soda bottles, toys, advertisements to rubber boots. Mills Novelty Company decided to cash in on their appeal as well and thus produced this gambling machine which is in an oak cabinet, elaborate tin litho dial with Brownie faces on the highest winning payout and a fancy cast iron head accepting up to five coins. If all five slots were selected, a winner was guaranteed. However, varied pay amounts from 2-1 up to 20-1 depending on color chosen (red and black were a 2 to 1 payout). Green, the highest payout (20 to 1) had only 2 slices on the payout disc. A very desirable machine with a handsomely restored wooden cabinet and nickel plated iron castings. The lithographed tin dial with the various colors is in near mint condition, the machine is in functional condition. SIZE: 22″ w x 11-1/2″ d x 30″ h. CONDITION: Overall very fine restored condition, replacement rear back door. 1-10534 (5,500-7,500)
