MILLS 5 CENT FUTURITY SLOT MACHINE. In the 1930s, all manufacturers of slot machines were looking for a gimmick to retain the player’s attention. Oftentimes brightly painted attractive castings were used, and other times a gimmick was utilized. The Mills Futurity has a visible dial at the top of the machine numbered from 1 to 10. Upon depositing a nickel, if the player did not win, the arrow moved upwards. If by chance the player got the arrow to 10, he would be awarded ten nickels and the dial would reset to zero. Basically, the player was being told that the machine could not cheat them, that it did pay off, otherwise his money would be refunded. Oftentimes the player would get the dial up to 7, 8, or 9, and a small three or five coin payout would occur, thus resetting the dial to zero. This slot machine has an inordinate amount of cherries on the first and second reel, making it very difficult for the player not to win, especially with the slim chance of advancing the arrow to 10. A unique and highly sought after machine by collectors of gambling devices. Machine retains original wood finish and some original orange paint to front castings. Later brown crackle paint enhancement to front castings. Mechanism is intact, operational, and complete. A great gimmick machine from the 1930s! SIZE: 16″ w x 16″ d x 30″ h.
