PATENT MODEL CORPSE COOLER/PRESERVER. Patented March 17, 1874 by Philipp Weber #155,818 (replaced tag). One of Terry’s personal favorites and the subject of many amusing and morbid conversations after he purchased it from Julia’s in November 2002. The casket with folding, locking, turned legs has a removable lid with viewing window for face and a hinged lid that covers the ice refilling hole. Interior reveals insert that holds ice and a plank to keep the dearly departed from coming into direct contact with the run off. Another interesting feature is that the foot of the casket slides out and extends for the more lanky inhabitants. Marked on side with inventor’s name and “Pittsburgh, PA”. SIZE: 12″ l x 4″ w x 7″ h. (extends to 13″ l) PROVENANCE: The late Terry Wesner collection, Chelsea, Michigan. CONDITION: Near excellent with some seam separation. 1-12693 (1,500-2,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - June 2013 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
