FINE GERMANIC TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 64. 40-5/8” swamped oct bbl. Maker’s cartouche on top of the bbl is a crown over “IOAN / SCH”. It has not been identified, but is probably one of the Anschutz. Rear sight has a standing blade and two folding blades. There is a pivoting hook at the front of the stock. Stock has raised carving in many places but is generally plain. Sliding wooden patchbox cover is inlayed with brass wire. Lockplate is unmarked. There is a hunter’s star inlayed in white and black material on the cheekpiece. Sideplate, trigger guard and buttplate are engraved brass. A knight in armor is engraved on the buttplate. CONDITION: 70% blue on the bbl. Lock is finished bright and has a few scattered specks of light surface rust. Brass has a dark patina except for the tailpipe, which has been kept bright by handling. Deluxe walnut stock has a few minor chips in the carving. Mechanically fine. 4-56447 FS126 (3,000-5,000)
