KENTUCKY RIFLE ATTRIBUTED TO SIMON LAUCK, LANCASTER, PA & WINCHESTER, VA. Cal. 42. 41” oct bbl. Simon Lauck (1760-1815). He apparently worked in Lancaster County in the latter part of the 18th century. There was a Simon Lauck who joined Daniel Morgan’s riflemen to assist Gen. George Washington during the Revolution which may be the same person. There are no markings on the lock or bbl. Stock is incise carved on both sides. There is an engraved oval silver insert on cheekpiece & scalloped brass decoration below cheekpiece. Elaborate 4-pc patchbox is finely engraved & attached with seven screws. Small oval silver insert on wrist & two acorn shaped engraved silver key escutcheons forward of the lock on either side. CONDITION: Gray/brown patina with light pitting overall except where it has been cleaned for the reconversion. Brass has a nice patina. Stock has been broken through the wrist & repaired. Couple of small cracks in the forestock. Lock and trigger work. Catch on patchbox needs to be adjusted. 4-56823 (5,500-7,500)
