PULVER’S WOODEN CASED “YELLOW KID” GUM MACHINE. Another “fresh to the market find” just discovered down the street from Julia`s auction gallery. This outstanding example of a clockwork turn of the century gum vendor features the truly first American comic spokesperson…the Yellow Kid. A single column gum vendor, activated by a penny, the Yellow Kid bows, then turns to the gum column, raising his hand to his mouth and then turns back to observe the delight of the young child receiving a stick of gum. A pot metal head with original paint and a polished cotton gown (frail, fabric loss) adorn the Yellow Kid figure. Cabinet is constructed of oak with a glass front window and two smaller glass windows on either side. An oval brass tag is mounted to the front panel/door and all paper adorning the front window are is original. Truly not only is this a great coin operated vending machine but a wonderful piece of turn of the century Americana that has been in attic storage for generations. In fact, the original finish has worn down almost to bare wood as would be expected from decades of service and subsequent storage. SIZE: 12″ w x 10-1/2″ d x 24-1/4″ h. CONDITION: Overall machine is in very good-fine original condition in as found working condition with a couple minor splits to wood case, lacking lock on back door. 1-10540 (9,000-11,000)
