SIGNED N. BEYER FLINTLOCK RAISED CARVED KENTUCKY RIFLE. Cal. 60. 42-1/2” oct bbl. This exact rifle is illustrated on page 79 of the book, “Arms Makers of Lancaster County, Pensylvania”, by Wood and Wisker. The book goes on to indicate that it is belived Beyer was an apprentice of the famous John Phillip Beck. It also indicates that Beyer was listed on the tax list of Lebanon township, Lancaster County from 1807-1810 and supposedly stayed active as a gunsmith until 1865. Engraved in script “N + Beyer +” on top of the bbl. Lockplate is a commercial import from Philadelphia and signed, “C. BIRD CO PHILAD. WARRANTED”. Both sides of the stock are raised carved with tulip design and have small silver disks set into the flowers. The cheek piece set with a silver engraved spread-winged eagle and an oval silver disk on the wrist. The forestock incised carved the entire legnth. CONDITION: Gray/brown patina overall. Stock has minor cracks and some repairs. Lock is a very good. Some vise marks on the bbl. 4-56825 (15,000-20,000)
