PATENT MODEL TIRE COOLING TRESTLE. Patented May 24, 1881 by Q.W. Bartlow, #241,778. This now archaic device helped to make a wheel maker’s job easier and safer. In its horizontal position a wheelwright would fasten a hot metal “tire” onto a wooden wagon wheel, then by a hand lever tip the table and lower it into a trough of cold water to shrink and fit it onto the wheel. Accompanied by original patent tag (good with light stains). SIZE: 11″ l x 10″ w x 12″ h. PROVENANCE: The late Terry Wesner collection, Chelsea, Michigan.
