RARE W&H SHANNON MODEL 1808 CONTRACT FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 69. 44” rnd bbl. Marked “W & H S / PHILA” in two vertical lines at the lockplate. “US” in an oval in front of the hammer is clear but the eagle above it is barely visible. Bbl has the sunken cartouche with a raised eagle head over the letters “CT” as well as the stamp “CT189”. Left side of the stock shows the remains of a cartouche as well as some stamped numbers and letters. William Shannon and is father, Hugh, had a contract for 4,000 US Model 1808 muskets but only delivered 1,100. They seldom appear on the market. CONDITION: Metal has been cleaned to bright. Stock has been broken through the lockplate and only partially repaired. Some slivers are sticking out and chips are missing. Mechanically good. 4-57053 FS140 (1,500-2,500)
