SCARCE 3RD MODEL HARPERS FERRY MODEL 1840 FLINTLOCK MUSKET. Cal. 69. 42” rnd bbl. Dated 1840 on the lockplate and bbl tang. “I / 49” is stamped on the bbl in front of the date. The number “12” is stamped on the bbl, sideplate, pan, trigger guard, bbl bands, and buttplate. “556” has been dble stamped on the bbl to the rear of the “12”. An assembly number “4” is stamped on most of the same pcs. There is a mark on the left side of the stock that is not completely readable but no cartouche. This fine old muscket is from a private old Pennsylvaia collection and being sold unreserved. CONDITION: Smooth brown patina on the bbl cleaned in spots, leaving a gray patina. Darker patina on the other pcs. Stock is very good to fine with light dents and scratches. Ramrod not original. Mechanically fine. 4-55109 (6,000-8,000)
