PATENT MODEL CAROUSEL. Patented January 4, 1876 by Robert Steel, #171,898. Outstanding clockwork toy carousel with fabric skirt and fringe overlay under a green silk canopy (fabric replaced). Hollow tin horses and gondolas rotate in a counter clockwise motion each unit set with all bisque doll rider. Key wind on main platform sets it into motion. An exceptional piece of early technology with crossover appeal to carnival collector’s, toys, clockwork, patent models etc. Retains original patent and receiving tag (very good to excellent). SIZE: 14-1/4″ w x 17″ h. PROVENANCE: The late Terry Wesner collection, Chelsea, Michigan. CONDITION: Very good with uniform wear to tin. Mechanics working. 1-12700 (2,500-3,500)
