MARTIALLY MARKED MODEL 1860 HENRY LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 3385. One of 1,731 purchased by the Government ca. 1862-65. Usual configuration with 24-1/4″ oct bbl with integral magazine tube, orig German silver front sight & 2nd type 900 yard Henry ladder rear sight. Mounted with straight grain walnut buttstock with straight stock & early style rnd heel brass buttplate with trap. Right forward side of receiver & correspondingly on right flat of bbl is stamped “C.G.C.”, the military inspector initials. There is the outline of orig cartouche on right side of wrist. Serial number appears on left side of lower tang under wood, inside top tang channel of buttstock & inside toe of buttplate. Buttplate screws also have matching serial numbers while all three tang screws are unnumbered, however are orig Henry screws. CONDITION: Good. Bbl, lever & hammer are a dark attic patina with scattered light pitting. There is a hairline back of top tang, otherwise wood is sound with a chipped toe. Shows heavy wear with a gouge on right side & dark oil staining overall. Mechanics are fine although a little loose, worn dark bore. 4-57567 JR384 (25,000-35,000)
