RARE IRON FRAME HENRY MODEL 1860 RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 156. One of only 400 of these rare rifles. It has usual configuration with 24-1/4″ oct bbl, integral magazine tube, altered orig German silver front sight & first type 1,000 yard Henry ladder rear sight, missing its slide, mounted in receiver dovetail with bbl dovetail open. It has the unusual iron frame instead of gun metal (brass) frame found on majority of Henry rifles. Mounted with nicely figured American walnut with iron rnd heel buttplate with trap containing an orig 4-pc iron & hickory wiping rod. Serial number is in usual bbl location & appears on left side of lower tang under wood in top tang channel of buttstock & inside heel of buttplate. CONDITION: Very good to fine, all matching including all five stock screws. Metal overall retains a mottled dark brown patina, silvery in gullets with scattered light surface rust. Receiver retains traces of orig blue, primarily on right side. There are hammer marks on both sideplates. Stock is sound with a series of scratches on both sides with usual handling & use marks. There is some slight oil staining at receiver, otherwise it retains a beautiful smooth hand polished patina. Extractor is missing, otherwise mechanics are fine. Strong bright bore with moderate pitting. 4-57565 JR385 (60,000-100,000)
