PATENT MODEL BISSELL CARPET SWEEPER. Patented January 26, 1886 by Bissell and Drew, #335,010. The one that started it all from the company that is still in business today. This gorgeous wood case with hand painted swath of roses and other flowers on the front and back and stenciled on top in gold “Bissell’s Carpet Sweeper” with “Grand Rapids” in between. With cast iron attachment for push rod (rod absent). With four cast iron wheels with hard rubber slips. Bottom is set with circular brush and fold out dust pan at the front and back that collects debris as the machine is pushed to and fro. Accompanied by original patent tag and receiving tag (very good but darkened). SIZE: 14″ l x 9″ d x 4-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: The late Terry Wesner collection, Chelsea, Michigan. CONDITION: Overall very good plus with scattered scuffs and scratches. Wheel covers intact but showing some crazing and cracking. Would benefit from a light cleaning. 1-12667 (2,500-3,500)
