PACIFIC NORTHWEST FROG TOTEM. Early 19th century, probably cedar. Unique totem carved in form of climbing frogs intertwined with lily pads and snails. Uppermost frog in seated position holding a snail in his webbed feet. Carved beneath base is name of artist “..I. ALEP.” SIZE: 20-3/4″ h. CONDITION: With original surfaces, chocolate brown color and nice undisturbed patina. Shrinkage cracks throughout. Upper frog’s proper left foreleg with 1/2″ section missing at wrist. Likewise, small loss to left side of mouth and brow. 9-22530 (1,000-1,500)
