MILLS FIVE CENT FUTURITY. An excellent restoration to this 1930s “Gimmick” payout slot machine. A fanciful Art Deco front castings with the typical three-reel mechanism featuring cherries, plums etc. During this time period manufacturers used a variety of techniques to appeal to the potential players. One was being fancy or colorful front castings/overall appearance, the second being some feature that allowed the player to win or receive money back. The concept of this machine is that if the potential gambler played ten times without getting a winner, he would get his ten nickels back. A visible dial on the top casting moves upward each time the player does not win. If the dial goes to ten, it automatically resets to zero and ten coins come cascading down the payout shoot. There is always a small chance, as a player, that the dial would reach ten. Very unlikely due to the number of cherries on the first and second wheel, often times the indicator might be at six or seven when a pair of cherries come up and awarding you two coins and resetting the indicator back to zero. A great gimmick that attracted players for a while but this unit was somewhat troublesome and often operators bypassed or disconnected it. This machine has been expertly restored and is in excellent working order including the Futurity mechanism. Included is a reproduction wooden base that the machine sits on. SIZE: Overall 61″ t. Machine is approx. 16″ w x 15″ d x 27″ t. CONDITION: As stated above, reproduction cash box included. 1-11986 (2,000-3,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2012 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
