US SURCHARGE US MODEL 1795 MUSKET. Cal. 69. 44-1/2” rnd bbl. Except for the “US” cut into the tail, the lockplate is unmarked. There is a large sunken cartouche on top of the bbl with an eagle head over “P”. There is an oval cartouche on the stock, but it is unreadable. Front band is too close to the front of the bbl, leaving too little room for a bayonet. Ramrod is an old replacement. Bbl bands are very heavy in construction. Lockplate is marked “TB” in a sunken cartouche. Mainspring and several screws are replacements, but the lock appears to be orig. There is a large oval condemnation mark on the right side of the bbl above the lockplate. Lock screws are replacements and both are too long. CONDITION: Brown patina overall with moderate to heavy pitting at the breech. Stock has normal handling marks. Lock is good. 4-56334 FS173 (2,500-3,500)
