US SURCHARGED FRENCH MUSKET. Cal. 80. 42-5/8” rnd bbl. The stock is in the Brown Bess style. The lockplate is marked “…GIRAR…” in front of a hammer with a horizontal “US” at the tail. The top of the bbl has the same US surcharge in front a smaller partially defaced US surcharge. The upper left flat is marked “S fleur-de-lis F”, this is stamped over another marking “Jean….”. The frizzen spring joins the frizzen screw with the frizzen screen screw, in the Spanish style. The sling swivels are missing, the ramrod is a replacement. CONDITION: Rust/brown patina overall. Wood has some repairs and cracks and is revarnished. Mechanically fine. 4-57255 FS180 (4,000-6,000)
