CARVED SQUID RESTAURANT TRADE SIGN. Late 19th/early 20th century. From the “RESTAURANT L’ATLANTIC, LE VERDON”, France. This folk art example carved from the solid depicting a double sided squid. Mounted with original wrought iron hangers and sheet tin braces, designed to hang suspended from a building and to be viewed from both sides. The carved fins fitted to the posterior, as are the two major tentacles. This lot is sold together with a plinth base marked with the name of the restaurant from which it originated. SIZE: Overall: 30″ h x 53″ l. Size of base: 4″ h x 25″ l x 10 1/4″ w. CONDITION: Structurally intact and original. The painted surfaces mostly removed, the body now with waxed surfaces over remnants of old paint. 9-97032 (1,500-2,000)
