OUTSTANDING SET OF LENOX SERVICE PLATES DEPICTING FAMOUS AMERICA’S CUP YACHTS. The cream plate having a cobalt blue with gold highlighted gadrooned border. Each plates center having a hand painted nautical scene with sailboat(s). Each plate on reverse is marked with the green Lenox mark (1930-1954) and has a gold typed description of the sailing scene. Each plate marked in gold “2249/J415B”. Also each is numbered differently. Each plate also marked “Specially made for J.E. Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia”. Yacht’s depicted include “Columbia”, “Rainbow”, “Resolute”, “Ranger”, “America”, “Enterprise” and more. The plates are numbered 1 through 19. Referred to as “The Yacht Defender Plates” and according to Lenox records they were sold in sets of 12 only. The sketches were made by Frank Holmes which were made into prints and filled in with hand painting. We would like to thank the Lenox Company for assisting us in the research of these plates.
