AMERICAN SWORDFISH BILL SWORD. Circa 1908. This nicely painted example of American folk art designed as a ceremonial sword, the blade painted with small vignettes including the date “1908”, the initials “ESC”, a swordfish breeching, a displayed eagle clutching two crossed flags and an American shield, and a small seascape within a vine border, mounted with a chip carved hilt applied with the name “ELIZABETH”. SIZE: 37″ l. CONDITION: Overall very nice original condition, with minor paint losses within the seascape, body of fish and wing of eagle. Loss minimal and easily restored. Additionally with a 1″ splinter at tip of blade and at juncture of handle. 9-96542 (600-800)
