HUGE SCALE MODEL OF A CABOOSE. This lot as well as the preceding lot were recently found in a New Jersey estate. Painstakingly created from scratch the wooden body exhibits an immense undertaking not only in time and labor but in recreating in miniature an American icon of railroad history. The truck assemblies appear to be of professional manufacture and probably available to those creating various railroad cars. It features an inordinate amount of attention to detail including the knuckle couplers, cupola, framework, railings, etc. The caboose first introduced in the 1840s became a mainstay of the railroads but then in the 1980s showed the slow decline of their use, which then continued dramatically. Today it would be a rarity to see one at the end of a freight train. SIZE: 66″ l x 14″ w x 21″ h. 7″ between flanges. CONDITION: Overall very fine original condition with a few minor chips. 1-10327 (1,000-1,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
