DAVID JAMES (British, 1853-1904) PREPARING FOR THE RESCUE. Interesting oil on canvas scene shows a two-mast schooner floundering in stormy seas off the coast where a large wood dock has eleven men preparing for the rescue. An American flag whips in the wind at the top of a flagpole. One man holds a telescope to eye while others prepare. Beyond the dock is a lighthouse with building. Signed lower left “D James 78″. Housed in a modern partial gilt carved wood frame. The back stretcher having an old label. SIZE: 19-1/2″ x 30”. CONDITION: Old relining, some inpainting. Good. 9-97544 (1,500-2,500)
