ARCHITECTURAL MODEL OF U.S.S. HARTFORD. Circa 1940. This architectural and engineering model built by Michael Costagliola, a student at the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of Glen Cove, New York. The five-lift model with removable stern and bow sections showing detailed scale pencil drawings of the main decks of the ship including fore and aft gun emplacements, the port side with painted section showing original colors of hull. The model mounted on a stepped mahogany plinth. Affixed with a brass plaque engraved “WEBB INSTITUTE/229”. The opposing side with additional plaque painted with the name “U.S.S. HARTFORD” and with additional technical information pertaining to the original sloop after which this model was constructed. SIZE: 14″ h (overall) x 66″ l x 10-1/2″ W. CONDITION: The decks laminated to the hull with some lifting and warping due to expansion. Craquelure overall. Some minor cracks and abrasions from use. 9-21816 (1,500-2,500)
