ATTRIBUTED TO ROBERT SALMON (Scottish/American, 1775-1844) REPAIRING THE SHIP. Unframed watercolor mounted to board shows a two-mast large ship at dock leaning towards the dock with three men repairing the hull. Several other boats are seen along the docks, one with a British flag. Two men on the right corner are in a small boat which has lettering at the stern “Albion Yarmouth”, also initialed “RS”. An interesting watercolor for an artist that is unknown for his watercolor works. Two letters from Princeton University signed by John Wilmerding, who authored a book on Salmon, states that this very well could be a Salmon watercolor and that the quality is consistent with his work and the lettering on the boat look consistent with his hand. SIZE: 11-1/2″ x 17″. CONDITION: Some tears to edges and discoloration, intact and generally otherwise good. 9-96789 (800-1,200)
