PAINT DECORATED TOOL CHEST; DOVER, MAINE. 2nd half 19th century. The pine and maple tool chest with paneled hinged lid, bound with iron strapping, opening to an interior fitted with walnut tool box. Lid interior painted with a river scene, a pole boat, mountainous background and birds in flight with cartouche border within grained outer border and titled beneath in gilt letters “LEANDER GAREY. OF DOVER MAINE.” The molded dovetailed box raised on a plinth and fitted with iron carrying handles. SIZE: 21″ h x 38″ l x 23-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Retains original painted surfaces. Landscape scene in very good condition overall, minor and minimal imperfections. All hardware original. 9-96533 (2,000-3,000)
