WILLIAM HAMILTON GRAHAM (19th Century) “NEAR THE RUINS OF SCHOMBERG CASTLE”. Oil on canvas panoramic landscape scene shows a castle on top of a mountain in the background. A river winds through the valley and in the foreground is a man in rowboat, sheep and cows grazing in the fields lined with trees. All under an expansive sky in shades of blue, pink, yellow and white. Pasted paper on reverse of canvas appears to be of the period and is inscribed as follows: “The celebrated Graham series, Property since 1856 of Estate of the Vicomt de Fronsac, scene No. 8 near the ruins of Schomberg Castle. Painted in Dresden. Artist William Hamilton Graham N.A. Price $1,800”. Also having an embossed sticker “College of Arms of Canada”. Housed in what appears to be its original gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 26″ x 36″. PROVENANCE: From an old Southern Maine collection. CONDITION: Several patches to reverse, some discolored varnish, inpainting. Very good. 9-94131 (1,500-2,500)
